Licensed Practical Nursing is an essential part of the family of nursing and the health care delivery system. It is complementary to other health care disciplines and shares responsibilities and functions with them. It is a caring, supportive profession. Its practitioners are individually accountable for all their actions and decisions.

The Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses is the regulatory body responsible for the initial registration, annual licensing, counselling, disciplining, review and approval of educational standards and setting standards of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses in Saskatchewan.

The Association provides constructive input to the decision making process in health care planning and delivery of services, including policy development at the provincial and federal level.

Professional membership in the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses requires that Practical Nurses support and participate in the following objectives:

  1. To elevate the standards for the Practical Nurse through basic education, post basic education and life long learning so as to render the most competent nursing service to the public;
  2. To support and promote co-operation between all health care providers;
  3. To participate on various committees of governments, educators and agencies as the advocate of the receiver of health care services;
  4. To abide by the SALPN Members' CODE OF ETHICS contained in Bylaw No. 16 of the association.
