Discipline Decisions

Discipline Decisions

As part of its mandate for public protection, The Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses, as described by the Licensed Practical Nurses Act, 2000, must produce disciplinary decisions to the public. A disciplinary hearing will be conducted when any matter is referred to the Discipline Committee for their review.   The Discipline Committee consists of at least three members appointed by the SALPN council, a majority of whom need to be practising LPNs. Disciplinary hearings allow SALPN Membership the opportunity to address the complaint in a formalized tribunal setting.

Powers of the Disciplinary Committee

At the conclusion of the hearing, if the Discipline Committee finds that a Member is guilty of either professional misconduct or professional incompetence as defined in the Act, the Committee can decide on the following actions.

  • Expel the Member from the Association
  • Suspend a Member’s licence for a specific period of time
  • Suspend a Member’s licence while he or she completes specific requirements
  • Place conditions upon the Member’s licence
  • Pay a fine up to 5000 dollars.
  • Any other requirements as requested by the Committee
